How To Reconnect An Old Telephone Line

September 5, 2010

The invention of the telephone made communication very easy . Contacting people were made faster and even the blind and disabled could convey messages over the phone. Distances felt shorter because of the telephones. The telephone device in your home or office is connected to the main telecommunication network with the assistance of wires known as telephone lines, which are installed either overhead or underground  and with a unique telephone number. With the flourishing popularity of mobile phones and free internet calling, people rarely use the landlines for calling , but for the internet connection through the phone line.

The telephone services are not always smooth. Many times you face problems like lack of dial tone , or the ringing sound is not heard, or you just hear one ring , or noise in your phone line, or most often you find that your phone is disconnected . There can be many reasons for this. Sometimes your wires might be quite old and change of weather can affect its function. When water gets into the wires or the connection box  it can often interrupt  your service. Many people have complained of problems when their broadband connections are through the telephone lines. They mostly complain that their internet connection gets disconnected every time the land phone rings. Sometimes a problem  arises that if your phone lines gets disconnected for a lenghty period of time , the company gives the lines to another customer . Another problem with phone lines getting disconnected is, that you will have to pay a large amount to the company technicians to reconnect phone line

If your phone gets disconnected, how do you  reconnect your phone line? If it is a minor problem, it can be handled by yourself. But if it is a big problem, which you can’t solve by yourself, then you will have to contact your telephone company . When you find your phone is disconnected , you will have to  initially check out if the problem is inside your house or outside. First check out if the black wire connected to your phone is firmly seated. Then check out if the other end of the wire connected to the jack, is loose or if it is plugged in firmly. Also check all cables to your computer as well . If everything is properly fixed , then you have to check the outside. Check the outside jack and ensure that the wires are firmly connected. The next thing you have to check is the main wire that goes from the outside jack to your telephone company’s Network Interface Device to ensure that the wires are not exposed or broken. If all of your wires are intact, then you should phone the telephone company and report your problem. They will send  out a technician to rectify the problem.

If you move into a new premises which already has a telephone line installed, instead of going in for a new connection, you can reactivate telephone line that is already existing if you don’t mind using the same number already allotted to this line. This can be done for a fraction of the cost .
