About Gurutec
Gurutec, or Guru Technical Services LLC, was started by me, Tim Williston. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and went to high school at Booker T. Washington. I was challenged a lot there and decided that I wanted to be in a technical career.
For college, I attended Oklahoma State University where I received my bachelor's degree in Management Science and Computer Systems. MSCS is very similar to MIS. It's a little more technical - more math and programming. I really enjoyed my time at OSU, and I would definitely recommend OSU if you are interested in a business career.
After OSU, I moved to Dallas to find a job and live, but it just wasn't home. The traffic was horrendous, and people didn't seem as friendly, and the metroplex was just too big. Tulsa was my home, so I moved back!
I worked for several companies in Tulsa... waiter at El Chico (loved the work, but not the hours), Internet tech support for PeoplePC (hated being on the phone all day), and finally for about 4 years I worked for a marketing company as a database programmer. This is where I learned how to write code for ASP, SQL Server, and ASP.NET.
I longed, however, to be my own boss. Finally, in August 2004, I quit my full-time job and started this business, Guru Technical Services LLC. I love the freedom to set my own hours and work on the projects that I really love!
